Your Hair Deserves Beautiful Care

Your wig or topper is an investment, and with the right care, it can stay soft, beautiful, and natural looking for longer.

Follow these simple care guidelines to protect the quality, movement, and longevity of your Opal House hair.

Washing Your Hair

We recommend washing every 7–10 wears, or whenever you notice product buildup or the hair feels like it needs refreshing.

How to Wash

  1. Gently detangle first
Starting at the ends, carefully brush through the hair and work your way upward. Never pull or tug through tangles.
  2. Use lukewarm water
Avoid very hot water, which can dry out the hair and shorten its lifespan.
  3. Shampoo gently
Use a sulfate free, moisturizing shampoo. Smooth the shampoo through the hair in a downward motion rather than rubbing or scrubbing.
  4. Rinse thoroughly
Allow the water to flow in the same direction as the hair to help prevent tangling.
  5. Condition
Apply a hydrating conditioner from the mid-lengths through the ends. Avoid applying heavy conditioner directly to the base, knots, bonds, or attachment areas.
  6. Rinse and gently remove excess water
Never twist or wring the hair. Lightly press with a soft towel instead.

Drying Your Wig or Topper

Whenever convenient or possible, allow your hair to air dry on a wig stand.

If using a blow dryer, use a low-to-medium heat setting and always apply a heat protectant first.

Avoid brushing aggressively while the hair is soaking wet. Be especially gentle around the base and attachment areas.

Heat Styling

Our human hair wigs and toppers can be styled with heat tools, but less heat means longer lasting hair.

For best results:

  • Always use a heat protectant.
  • Keep tools on a low-to-medium temperature whenever possible.
  • Avoid repeatedly applying heat to the same section.
  • Never apply direct heat to the base, knots, clips, or attachment areas.
  • Allow curls to cool before brushing or styling them.

Pro Tip: Style in larger sections and use the lowest temperature that gives you the result you want.

Brushing & Detangling

Always begin at the ends of the hair and work upward toward the roots.

Hold the hair above the section you’re brushing to avoid unnecessary tension on the base.

We recommend using a gentle detangling brush, wide tooth comb, or brush specifically designed for wigs and extensions.

Never aggressively brush through knots or tangles.

Products We Recommend

Keep your routine simple and moisturizing.

Look for:

  • Sulfate free shampoo
  • Hydrating conditioner
  • Lightweight leave in conditioner
  • Heat protectant
  • Lightweight hair oil or serum for the ends
  • Gentle detangling spray

Avoid excessive amounts of hairspray, dry shampoo, heavy oils, or products containing high amounts of alcohol, as buildup can make the hair feel dry or heavy.

Sleeping & Everyday Wear

For the longest possible lifespan, we recommend removing your wig or topper before sleeping when it is convenient for you.

If your piece must be worn overnight, loosely braid or secure the hair and use a silk or satin pillowcase to minimize friction and tangling.

Avoid wearing your hair piece while swimming, showering, or sleeping unless your stylist has specifically instructed you otherwise.

Storing Your Hair

When you’re not wearing your wig or topper:

  • Gently brush and detangle it.
  • Store it on a wig stand or in its protective packaging.
  • Keep it away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, and humidity.
  • Make sure the hair is completely dry before storing it.

Proper storage helps maintain the shape, style, and condition of your piece.

A Little Extra Care Goes a Long Way

Human hair wigs and toppers behave much like natural hair, but they don’t receive the natural oils produced by your scalp. That means hydration, gentle handling, and minimal heat are especially important.

With proper care, your Opal House hair can continue to look soft, natural, and beautiful wear after wear.
